I stumbled upon a wonderful documentary this weekend – Finding Vivien Maier. For anyone who loves photography or even just loves a great life story, you have to see this documentary.
Ms Vivien Maier was an eccentric, mysterious woman. A nanny by trade in Chicago, but also a secret street photographer who took over 100, 000 photographs that she kept in storage lockers. Her work was discovered at an auction by collector John Maloof, who purchased all her possessions (trinkets and all) and passionately pieced together the puzzle of her life……and the rest (as they say) is history. But, sadly she never got to see her ‘now fame’, as she died before John had purchased her belongings form the storage locker and made her work known.
You have probably seen some of her black and white images but not known it was Vivien. She has such an amazing eye for capturing the human spirit and the details in the most mundane of things. I fell in love with this mystery of why she never pursued her love of photography and stayed being a nanny for 40 years. You really have to see this and check out the official website to view her work:
